Foil Tail Wing POP

The part that changes everything, sold like it doesn't.

Tail wings are one of the most consequential upgrades in foil surfing. Swap one out and the entire character of your setup shifts: how early you lift, how loose you feel in a turn, how stable you are at speed. But walk into most board shops and you'd never know it. They sit in plastic bags on a peg hook, unlabeled and undiscovered, next to bolts and fin screws. This project set out to change that, designing a point-of-purchase display that could ship directly to shops with the wing mounted and the story already told.

The Brief

Design a point-of-purchase display that ships directly to board shops with a tail wing mounted and the product story already attached, turning a small, technical component into a compelling standalone retail object that communicates modularity, performance variation, and the tactile appeal of the product.

The Process

Through several rounds of iteration and collaborative input during the design process, we developed a display form that does double duty: it physically showcases the wing's geometry at the right angle, and it carries the product copy that would otherwise live on a spec sheet no one reads. The shape was refined until the display itself felt like a considered object, something a shop would want on the counter rather than tucked behind the register.

The magnetic format means the copy panel ships attached, stays put on the shelf, and travels cleanly through the retail supply chain without separate assembly.

The Outcome

A retail-ready display system that positions tail wings as intentional purchases, helping shops educate gear-focused customers about feel and performance differences between wing options, and reinforcing the broader message that foil setups are modular, tunable, and worth exploring deeply.
